Living for the Weekends - St Paul's Carnival

Well, Britain, what a bloody fantastic weekend. Not only did Andy Murray become the first Briton to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry 77 years ago, we were also treated to a weekend of pure, unadulterated sunshine - something that also hasn't happened in 77 years. This weekend I celebrated the hot weather by heading down to St. Paul's carnival, a Caribbean Street Festival hailed as the "better, and less commercial" Notting Hill Carnival. And, having sampled both in my lifetime, I'd have to say I agree. Bristol's older equivalent seems far more authentic - more music, more food, and less hectic - altogether, far more Caribbean. The carnival started on Friday night and lasted into the early hours of this morning. If it hadn't clashed with Wimbledon, you would have had some trouble stopping me from pitching a tent and staying there the whole weekend. Here's what I got up to...

Wish List Mondays #31

Arright my luvver? Development of the week: I have moved out of Surrey. Yes, that was quick. Speedy Gonzales quick. For at least this week, if not this month, I am residing in the beautiful city of Bristol - with the premise of landing a job. Which is why this Wish List is coming to you a day late - yesterday was spent entirely on buses, day tripping it over to the little town of Street, Somerset. By the time I got back, the sun was setting over Clifton's suspension bridge:

(unforch not my photo)
Anyway, back to the Wish List. On my expedition through the interweb this week, I came across this 'totes amaze' sleeping bag:

IT'S A SHARK!

Definitely one to pull out for festival season. Imagine the fun. Imagine it. Buy it from Urban Outfitters here.

As amazing as this is, hopping down the High Street in this bad boy might prove hazardous for the somewhat less coordinated of us (me). So I've put together a Wish List of slightly more conventional - but no less stylish - pieces for you to covet. Enjoy.

Wish List Mondays #24 - Clash of the Titans: Rosie vs. Cara

Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Cara Delevingne are the current juggernauts of the fashion world. It's virtually impossible to open a magazine and not see Rosie draped over a designer bag, or read a newspaper without Cara's exploits of the night before being splashed all over the 'society' pages. You're not even safe walking through town, as giant billboard of the style icons watch your every move. Both mascots of Burberry, no British models have managed to eclipse their greatness since the days of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss back in the mid-90's. Yet the two girls' styles couldn't be more different. Rosie stands for sex-injected femininity; the girl every woman wants to emulate on the first date. Cara represents the 'wild child': fun, vibrant, and young, her style copied by thousands of teenagers up and down the country. The two girls stand at opposite ends of the spectrum of British fashion. This week's Wishlist pits these two Titans against one another, in a fashion face-off. It's up to you to decide who comes out the victor in the style stakes. First up, let's remind ourselves what we're up against...

Easter Egg-Stravaganza

It's Easter! Which, in my books, equals mountains of guilt-free chocolate eating. Not that I ever feel that guilty for eating chocolate, but still. It also means lots of egg-related puns. So that's egg-sactly what you should egg-spect from this post. Let's not egg-saggerate, but Easter's one of the best times of year. Not only do you get a four day weekend, but it also heralds the end of Lent and the start of Spring (or, it would, if all the daffodils hadn't been killed by the snow last week). This year may indeed be one of the last Easters I spend with my family for a while, as I am planning to escape the cold and snow in egg-schange (are you getting egg-sasperated yet?!) for the balmier climate of Australia. So I thought it only fair to 'Kodak-moment' this occasion - and obviously share it with you guys. So here you are: this is our Easter Egg-Stravaganza (that's it, I promise).

Easter Lamb Pie
Creme Eggs can suck it.
Malachite Egg: Not For Consumption

Quiche Soufflé

Happy Easter - I hope the Bunny was good to you too!

Going Off The Grid

Once in a blue moon, I get the opportunity to get away from it all. To escape to somewhere in the country that has no signal, terrible internet service, and a roaring fire.  For the past few days, I've been at such a retreat: my friend Iona's farm in Leicestershire. As a life-long urbanite, I'm one of those exasperating people who gets excited by fields of sheep, coos at cows, and hadn't - until Tuesday - ever picked up a live chicken. Yes, folks, while you've been waiting with baited breath for my weekly music instalment, I've been frolicking around on snowy hills with a couple of dogs - Milly and Teasel (and Iona..!) - and warming my frozen tootsies on an open fire. To make you slightly jealous (and to prove that I haven't just been holed up watching TV in my PJ's), I thought I'd do a little photo post of what we got up to on one of our walks...

It looks like Teasel has a human body. Lol.

Tomorrow I'm back with an EPIC Tune Tape to make up for my absence - just in time for Easter!
